UNICAL STUDENTS PROTEST OVER WATER SCARCITY AND POWER OUTAGE

Students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) on Monday conveyed notices challenging against disregard of their welfare by the university's powers. 

The challenge, which started at around 5.30 a.m., made frenzy as specialists and brokers got stranded at streets connecting the university, including Etta Agbor, IBB Way and Mary Slessor Road. 

The notices read: "VC, give us water and light, students can't ponder without light and water, power and water is our privilege,'' among others. 

One of the students, Mr Emeka Ebere, of the Physics Department, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the students had been staying without light and water in inns for over three weeks. 

Ebere included that the school powers were doing nothing about the predicament of students. 
"Rats come to eat our legs when we rest in light of the fact that all over is shaggy and there is no light for over three weeks now". 
"Once more, we have not had water throughout recent months and students need to go long separations into the town to get water." 
He faulted the circumstance for the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. James Epoke, charging that the VC was not indicating worry over students' welfare in light of the fact that his residency would terminate one month from now. 

Another student from the English and Linguistics Department, Miss Theresa Kahi, guaranteed that the bad habit chancellor was the explanation behind the challenge. 
"The last time we exhibited inside of the school premises, they charged us for harms yet now we are challenging outside the school entryway on the grounds that we need water and light. 
"We, the students of this school are burnt out on the university's mentality administration. 
"The dissent is to send an in number message to the VC that we need water and light inside the university,'' she said. 
NAN reports that a unit of against mob policemen was positioned at the Mary Slessor/Marian Roundabout, around 700 meters from the primary entryway of the university.
